President Jonathan Releases Statement On 2015 Presidential Election Result : READ FULL TEXT

Official statement by president Jonathan after the announcement of the results of presidential election Fellow Nigerians, I thank you all for turning out en-masse for the March 28 General Elections. I promised the country free and fair elections. I have kept my word. I have also expanded the space for Nigerians to participate in the democratic process. That is one legacy I will like to see endure. Although some people have expressed mixed feelings about the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), I urge those who may feel aggrieved to follow due process based on our constitution and our electoral laws, in seeking redress. As I have always affirmed, nobody’s ambition is worth the blood of any Nigerian. The unity, stability and progress of our dear country is more important than anything else. I congratulate all Nigerians for successfully going through the process of the March 28th General Elections with the commendable enthusias

How ‘Shoki’ song cost me my job

Image
I made it to the final stage of the recruitment process of one multinational. The interview was for 9am at their Island office. I can boldly say they were looking for candidates who had the virtue of patience because the interview didn’t commence till 1pm. Seated in the waiting room were 10 other candidates making us 11 altogether. They said it was 15 minutes for each candidate. I noticed that each time a candidate came out of the interview room, the person had frustration written all over them. (The waiting room was a glass house so we could see those passing by) I was curious on what sort of questions were being asked but interviewed candidates were not allowed back into the waiting room. Candidate no5 was the worst hit. He was practically dragging his feet and nodding his head disappointedly as he walked past. I had to sneak out to meet him at the lobby. “Please, how was it?” I asked. He just looked at me and said, “Oniranu. Very yeye man! How can they ask

The world’s 10 happiest jobs aren’t what you’d expect

It is very difficult to know beforehand if you are going to love your job. There are a lot of factors that come into play to secure work satisfaction. These include: your office environment, nature of work, company culture, your colleagues and (obviously) your salary. Sadly the truth is, you’re going to be spending most of your daily life at the office – so you might as well be happy, right? And while you never know what to expect at your new place of work, you can do some research to help stack the odds in your favour. A good way to start is by checking out Forbes’ annual happiest job list. This year the top 10 happiest jobs are: 1. Principal 2. Executive chef 3. Loan officer 4. Automation engineer 5. Research assistant 6. Oracle data base operator 7. Website developer 8. Business development executive 9. Senior software engineer 10. Systems developer If some of these are puzzling (who would have thought being a principal is one of the happiest jobs?), Car

GET TO KNOW WHEN TO KEEP YOUR KIDS HOME FROM SCHOOL

Trying to determine whether to keep a child home from school due to illness can be difficult for parents, but a paediatrician offers some advice on how to make that call. When to keep a child home "Being a parent is a juggling act, but throw in a child being home sick from school and the delicate balance topples. Many parents ask: When is it important to keep my child home from school and when should I send them?" Dr. Hannah Chow-Johnson, a paediatrician at Loyola University Health System in Maywood, Illinois, said in a university news release. "There are times when it's best for the child and his or her classmates to just remain at home," said Chow-Johnson, who's also an assistant professor in the paediatrics department at Loyola's School of Medicine. One common problem is pink eye – conjunctivitis. "Your child is contagious with bacterial or viral conjunctivitis until the redness and discharge are gone. If the cause is viral

He noted that any form of government brought about other than a democratically elected government would not be acceptable. WOW! GUYS CHECKOUT THE LATEST GENERATION OF SKATEBOARD. THIS IS AMAZING!!

Image
When a product shows up on the pages of the Hammacher Schlemmer catalog, you know it's bound to be entertaining. The Post Modern Skateboard certainly fits that description. You might notice the almost complete lack of resemblance to a skateboard as we know it. This product consists of two 10-inch round wheels with foot platforms inside. A better description would be "annular skates." "Annular" just means ring-shaped. "Skates" is self-explanatory. Forward movement is created by leaning side to side, a process that looks like it would take some practice. An extendable rod is included to connect the two skates together for easier learning. A demonstration video shows practiced riders cruising down sidewalks, making tight spins and rolling over grass lawns. The $99.95 (about £68, AU$131) Post Modern Skateboard seems to be more spiritually akin to a caster board than to a skateboard. A caster board is a two-wheeled, human-powered veh

Mars colonist candidate expresses grave doubts about mission

Image
A contender for a one-way mission to Mars says the venture is unrealistic and will not work, according to an essay by the candidate published on Wednesday. Joseph Roche, an astrophysicist and lecturer at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland, is among 100 finalists selected by Mars One, a nonprofit Dutch organization, for possible permanent resettlement on Mars in 10 years. “I do not think we will see a one-way mission in my lifetime,” Roche wrote in an article published on Wednesday in the Guardian newspaper. His comments are not the first words of skepticism about the project in the scientific community. In October, researchers with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology concluded that the plan, which aims to establish a self- sufficient colony of 24 settlers, is flawed. “Although Mars One was never likely to overcome the financial and technical barriers during the proposed timeline, it was refreshing to hear a new idea that challenges us to think about our o

SEE WHY ALL ALASKA'S PONDS ARE DISAPPEARING

Image
Thousands of ponds are scattered like mirrors across Alaska’s coastal plain, providing nesting and feeding grounds for waterfowl. The bodies of water, each less than a hectare in area, fill depressions in the hummocky tundra landscape with meltwater from thawing permafrost. How the surface hydrology of Arctic permafrost regions—a key part of the Arctic carbon cycle—will transform in a changing climate isn’t well understood, but tundra ponds may be a powerful guide, because they are closely tied to changes in precipitation and temperature, scientists report in a study published online before print in the Journal of Geophysical Research: Biogeosciences. To gauge how the ponds have changed in the past 65 years, the researchers put high-resolution aerial photos taken across Alaska’s Barrow Peninsula in 1948 (at left) side-by-side with modern satellite images from 2002, 2008, and 2010 (at right). They also used pond data collected during the International Biological P

LOGICAL WAY TO DETECTING SECRET CAMERAS IN A ROOM

When you stay in an hotel or a room you feel you need privacy, how do you know there is no room pinhole camera? When you travel or take a business trip, and stay in a hotel or a guest house or room you could unknowingly be photographed. You can use this method to check your room: When you enter into the room, turn off the lights, and close the curtains, open your phone camera, do not turn the flash light on.Turn around the room with your cell phone. When a red dot is found, that means that a hidden web camera is installed. If no red dots, the room is ok. Please forward this message to your friends who travels alot or take business trips. Dog Kicked By Driver Returns With Other Dogs & Trashes His Car (photos)

Image
You know what they say, truth is stranger than fiction. So according to this report from China (and they have photos to back up their story) a man returned home in Chongqing China to find a stray dog lying in his parking spot. The man got out of the car, kicked the dog and parked. You would think that would be the end of the matter, right? Well, not as far as the dog was concerned. According to the story, the dog left and returned a while later with a park of friends and proceeded to exact its revenge by chewing the bodywork and windscreen wipers of the car belonging to the man who’d kicked it. Yep, this really happened… lol. According to local media reports, the vandalism was photographed by a shocked neighbour who saw the whole thing play out. If he hadn’t filmed, nobody would have believed it.

science: The quest to turn eye transplants from science fiction into reality

Image
When an eye is lost, darkness reigns. And those who treat eye trauma and disease are, in a sense, groping in the dark themselves. They have little to offer the young girl who tripped while trick-or- treating one Halloween night, cracking her skull and severing the optic nerve, or the 60-year-old who sees only light and shadows, because glaucoma has destroyed cells in that same conduit. Vijay Gorantla, a plastic and reconstructive surgeon at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, along with collaborators there and at nine other centers, want to turn eye transplants from science fiction into reality. They have their work cut out for them. The most daunting challenge is coaxing nerves to regenerate and connect the donor eye to the recipient's, and there are a host of other hurdles, too. But those holding the purse strings are ready to gamble, and researchers hope early models in pigs and rats will serve as a guide. In his first-floor lab at the University

The steady creep of less sleep

Image
Tweens and teens report getting less and less sleep with each passing year. The disturbing trend comes from data collected over the past 20 years from U.S. students. As of 2012, more than half of the surveyed kids age 15 or older reported sleeping less than seven hours a night. That is two to three hours less sleep than doctors and others recommend. Sleep is essential, especially for young kids and teens. Too little sleep leads to poor health and poor performance in school. It also increases the risk of accidents. The new study found consistent decreases in sleep between 1991 and 2012. The largest drops happened in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Details appeared online February 16 in the journal Pediatrics. The study crunched data that were collected as part of a program called “Monitoring the Future.” Each year, this survey asks some 50,000 U.S. students a variety of questions about their behaviors. One of them: “How often do you get at least seven hours of s
