Reserves death sentence for hackers A draft law empowering security agents to intercept, record and seize electronic communications among individuals has been crafted by the Federal Government and sent to the National Assembly. Dubbed the Cybercrime Bill and submitted to the National Assembly last week by President Goodluck Jonathan, the legislation will allow authorities, particularly during criminal investigations, to intercept and record personal emails, text messages, instant messages, voice mails and multimedia messages, if enacted into law. However, if the offence does not result in death but leads to "grievous bodily injury," the offender shall be liable to imprisonment for a minimum term of 15 years. The General Overseer of Greatlight One Family Ministry, (GLOFAM), Prophet Oladele Samuel, has urged Nigerians to pray for former president Olusegun Obasanjo and founder of Living Faith Church, Bishop David Oyedepo. Samuel, who made this plea while prophetically ministering, at a vigil tagged “Night of Fruitfulness”, alleged plans to cut short the lives of the two, though he was optimistic that prayers could avert such from happening. “The church should pray seriously for the former Head of State, Olusegun Obasanjo, and a great man of God, Bishop David Oyedepo, because, there are plans to silence their lives. The agitation for the actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra has taken a new dimension with a new leader of the struggle, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu declaring his readiness to fight all the way. He said Nigeria would seize to exist by December 2015. The directive by the National Universities Commission (NUC) cancelling the award of ‘Pass’ grade in the nation’s universities is causing dis­ quiet in the Ivory Towers. The order, which was reportedly issued last year, came to the front burner at the 2014/2015 matriculation ceremony of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, when the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Zuru, informed the fresh students about the development. Zuru urged the students to embrace the new E-grading system in the university and work hard to earn a good grade. He pointed out that with the new grading system, the pass mark for courses in the universities will now be 45 percent, that is, the D-grade, instead of the previous 40 percent, which was E-grade. In the new order, the minimum class of degree that students can earn will now be Third Class. Universities will, therefore, now only award First Class, Second Class (Upper Division), Second Class (Lower Division) and Third Class degrees. ...
